Abstract

The study focuses on the analysis of the adaptation of English-language terminology in the Ukrainian linguistic environment during martial law. The aim of the research is to examine the impact of these processes on the preservation of national linguistic identity and to identify mechanisms for integrating new terms into various sectors of public life. The methodology includes the use of both quantitative and qualitative tools for data collection and analysis, such as monitoring media, social networks, and official documents. The sample includes publications from major news sources and social platforms, from which the most common terms were selected, such as «drone», «cybersecurity», «logistics», «refugees», etc. The study analyzes the methods of adapting these words – calquing, direct borrowing, and transliteration. It was determined that the improper use of terms like «cybersecurity», «logistics», etc. poses a risk of shifting the meaning of terms, complicating communication accuracy and potentially leading to a loss of linguistic identity due to the growing influence of Anglicisms on the Ukrainian language.
The main findings of the study indicate that the military sector has the greatest impact on the integration of new terms, particularly through the active use of English-language vocabulary in communication with international partners and in military reports. In the humanitarian and economic spheres, the adaptation of new words is slower but still active, necessitating appropriate standardization and educational programs to improve literacy in the use of new terms. An important aspect is interaction with the media to ensure the correct use of new vocabulary like «humanitarian aid» or «refugees» may lead to misinformation due to incorrect interpretation.
Prospective areas for further research include exploring the possibility of creating a national terminology database for the standardization of foreign words and implementing educational programs to train specialists in various fields on the correct use of new terms. Special attention should be given to developing methods for integrating terms in the field of international communication, which will contribute to their harmonious incorporation into professional vocabulary without the loss of national linguistic features.
