Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of teaching translation to Chinese students studying at Ukrainian universities. The relevance of the study is stipulated by the need to adapt teaching methods to the peculiarities of monocultural study groups, to take into account the specifics of the Chinese language, psychological and cultural factors that influence the translation process. The research is based on the analysis of scientific works of Ukrainian and foreign linguists, as well as on the author's own experience in teaching translation to Chinese students. The main difficulties faced by students when translating from their native language into Ukrainian and vice versa, including differences in grammatical structures, lexical system and stylistics of the two languages, are analyzed. An ethnically oriented approach to teaching translation is described. A methodological translation algorithm consisting of three stages is proposed: pre-translation analysis, translation itself, and post-translation editing. At each stage, specific methodological techniques and exercises aimed at developing the necessary translation competences are demonstrated. Special attention is paid to the role of pre-translation analysis, the choice of translation strategy, the development of intercultural competence and the formation of text editing skills. The importance of educational tasks focused on the development of analytical thinking and translation competences of students is highlighted. The importance of having and improving the teacher's linguistic and cultural competence is emphasised. It is proved that effective teaching of translation to Chinese students is possible only if their national peculiarities and differences between Chinese and Ukrainian are taken into account. The results of the study can be used to improve the methodology of teaching translation to Chinese students in Ukrainian universities.
