Formatting requirements

The Editorial Board of the 'Scientific Notes of Ostroh Academy National University, Philology Series', accepts scholarly articles that align with the speciality B11 "Philology (by specialisations)" and the scientific field 10 "Philological Sciences" and which contain the following structural elements:

a) statement of the problem in general terms and its connection with important scientific or practical tasks; 

b) analysis of recent research and publications in which the solution to the problem has been initiated and on which the author relies;

c) identification of previously unresolved parts of the overall problem addressed in the article;

d) formulation of the aim of the article;

e) presentation of the main research material with a full justification of the obtained scientific results;

f) conclusions and prospects for further research.

 

Technical requirements and metadata

  1. email address (top left corner, bold, Times New Roman, 14 pt);
  2. ORCID / Researcher ID / Scopus ID (top left corner, bold, Times New Roman, 14 pt);
  3. UDC code (top right corner, bold, Times New Roman, 14 pt);
  4. Author information in Ukrainian (centre alignment, italics, Times New Roman, 14 pt): surname, first name and patronymic of the author; academic degree, position; name of the educational institution (place of employment);
  5. title of the article in Ukrainian (centre alignment, uppercase, bold, Times New Roman, 14 pt);
  6. an abstract of no less than 200 words and keywords in Ukrainian (in italics, Times New Roman, 14 pt, first-line indent – 1.25 mm);
  7. author information in English (centre alignment, italics, Times New Roman, 14 pt): surname, first name and patronymic of the author; academic degree, position; name of the educational institution (place of employment);
  8. title of the article in English (centre alignment, uppercase, bold, Times New Roman, 14 pt);
  9. an abstract of no less than 200 words and keywords in English (in italics, Times New Roman, 14 pt, first-line indent – 1.25 mm).

After leaving one blank line, type the main body of the article in MS Word using Times New Roman font, 14 pt size, 1.5-line spacing, and a 1.25 cm first-line indent. Alignment – in width. Margins: left – 25 mm; right, top, and bottom – 20 mm.

Do not use spaces for alignment in the text (use paragraph settings instead); clearly distinguish between an en dash (–) and a hyphen (-); and consistently use quotation marks ("…").

The article should be 12-20 pages in length, including abstracts, tables, diagrams, figures, and references. The file containing the materials should be saved in RTF or DOC formats.

 

Illustrations

The quality of the illustrations should ensure their clear reproduction. 

Figures and graphs should be inserted into the article in one of the following formats (jpeg, bmp, tif) with a resolution of at least 300 dpi (high-quality originals must be provided).

Figures must be captioned and numbered.   The caption should be placed below the illustration (e.g., Fig. 1. "Title").

All objects in simple figures created in Microsoft Word must be grouped. The article text must not contain figures and/or text in frames; figures placed over or behind the text, etc., i.e., all objects must be set to "in line with text" layout. Complex, multi-object layered figures must be created in graphic editors as vector graphics in EPS, CDR, AI, or PDF formats. All objects must be available for editing. 

Diagrams and flowcharts must be placed immediately after their first mention in the text.

No background or colour should be used in graphs and charts.

 

Tables

Each table must include a title above the table, centred and aligned to the top-right corner, in italics. The word "Table" should be written with a capital letter. 

The font size of tables must be one point smaller than that of the main text. 

Table cells should not be coloured. 

Tables and illustrations should not cross the margins of the page. Captions should be formatted consistently throughout the article.

 

Notes

Footnotes containing reference and explanatory information should be created automatically and numbered consecutively within a single page.

 

References to the sources used

 Citations to sources used should be formatted in APA style in parentheses, indicating the author, year of publication, and page number, e.g., (Masenko, 1999: 364). Page ranges should be indicated using a dash without spaces on either side (Pliushch, 2018: 64–65). Multiple sources should be separated by a semicolon (Shevchenko, 1998; Taranenko, 2022).

After the text of the article, provide the list of references (if the article is in Ukrainian) after one blank line. The word ЛІТЕРАТУРА should be printed in bold, centred. The numbered list of sources should be arranged in alphabetical order in accordance with DSTU 8302:2015.

If a source cited by the author has a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), it must be indicated. For example:

After the ЛІТЕРАТУРА, provide REFERENCES (centred, in bold), formatted in accordance with the APA style. If the article is in English, German, or French, only REFERENCES is required.

For transliteration of Ukrainian text into the Latin alphabet, use the free website https://slovnyk.ua/translit.php. (select the "American" option).

In the REFERENCES section, in addition to standard transliteration, an English translation of the publication and journal titles must be provided. For example: Kozelko, I. R.

Articles submitted for publication must be edited. Manuscripts may be submitted either by email at lingua.lab@oa.edu.ua or through the online submission system on the journal's website. The editorial board reserves the right to reject materials that do not meet the requirements.
